The Inflation Rate was 1.8% for the First Quarter of 2025

The first quarter inflation rate was 1.8 percent, and among the main contributors was a 9.7 percent rise in the education index. The main contributors to the increase in the education index were a 16.1 percent rise in the tuition for pre-primary and primary education, a 7.3 percent increase in the cost of secondary education, and a 1.9 percent upward movement in tertiary education.

There was also a 7.3 percent upward movement in transport, a 7.2 percent rise in restaurants and hotels, 5.0 percent in communication, 3.8 percent in health, and a 3.0 percent increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The 7.3 percent increase in the transport index was largely due to the 22.3 percent rise in the index for the purchase of motor vehicles. The index for other purchased transport services increased by 14.1 percent, and maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, which went up by 11.5 percent, also contributed to the increase.

A comparison of the first quarter of 2025 with the fourth quarter of 2024 indicates that the CPI declined by 1.0 percent, as the index for transport went down by 2.5 percent, clothing and footwear by 2.4 percent, housing and utilities by 1.9 percent, and miscellaneous goods and services by 0.3 percent.
