The Economics and Statistics Office is pleased to release the September 2008 Consumer Price Index.

The CPI in September 2008 increased by 7.4 % compared to the September 2007 CPI, which is traced to all major groups except clothing (-5.4%). The price increases were led by housing (11.7%), food (7.7%) and personal goods and services (7.5%). Shown below is a summary of the inflation rates across the major categories:


Meanwhile, the CPI moved up by 2.3 percent in September 2008 compared to the CPI in June 2008 on account of increases in the price indices of all major groups except clothing (-6.9%) and transport and communication (-0.5%).

Taking into account the annual inflation rates in March (2.5%) and June (5.5%), the average inflation rate for the first three quarters of 2008 is estimated at 5.1 percent.
