The Economics and Statistics Office is pleased to release the June 2008 Consumer Price Index.

The CPI in June 2008 increased by 5.4 % compared to the June 2007 CPI, which is traced to all major categories of goods and services in the CPI basket, led by housing (9.2%), household equipment (8.7%) and transport and communication (6.8%).

Meanwhile, the CPI moved up by 3.3 percent in June 2008 compared to the CPI in March 2007 on account of increases in all categories. The highest increases were recorded for housing (5.7%) and transport and communication (3.9%).

The annual CPI inflation rates in March (2.5%) and June (5.4%) bring the average inflation rate in the first semester of 2008 to 4.0 percent.
