2007 First Quarter Economic Report (QER) Released

The QER compiles key economic indicators for the first quarter of  2007 and shows their percentage change since the same quarter in 2006. Among the significant changes are as follows:
 
  • Growth of air arrivals by 13.2% and of cruise passengers by 5.9%;
  • Increases in financial services such as mutual funds (14.1%), new companies (16.7%), stock exchange listings (28 %) although bank and trust companies declined by 5.1%; and
  • Growth in credit to businesses by 18.7% and to households by 13.1%.
 
As expected, total value of imports in the first declined by 9.9% compared to a year ago as the economy continues to revert to its pre-Ivan levels of demand for construction materials and vehicles.
