2010 Population and Housing Census
|
The Cabinet of Cayman Islands has approved the planning, preparation and implementation of a
Population and Housing Census for the Cayman Islands. The approval was officially announced
on 26 March 2008. The next Population and Housing Census in Cayman Islands will be conducted
in October 2010.
The United Nations recommends all countries to carry out a population and housing census every tenth
year and the 2010 round of censuses should be carried out during the period 2005-2014. Earlier population
censuses in Cayman Islands have been conducted in 1802, 1891, 1911, 1921, 1934, 1943, 1960, 1970,
1979, 1989 and 1999 (10 October).
The coming Population and Housing Census in Cayman Islands should give statistics of good quality;
that is statistics that are relevant, timely and accurate. A Population and Housing Census is the largest
exercise a National Statistical Office can undertake and the Census has to be planned carefully.
The ESO aims to produce high quality data from the 2010 census. To achieve this, extensive effort will be
put into census form design, data collection procedures, and data processing procedures.
